CLUB STATEMENT – SPFL2 Club Statement League

The club would like to put forward an official application for consideration of entry to the SPFL2 Club statement league. We are sanguine as to the avenues this could spawn for the club and would consider it deleterious to our reputation if such an application was not made. We wait with anticipation the Statement leagues announcement on the successful applicants and hope they have the prescience to include a club such as ourselves

New Ants Captains appointed

Ants Manager John Kelly has made his first major decision as Ants manager by appointing his club and team captain’s for next season. Anton Conway has went from team captain to club captain and the big man is looking forward to leading the club in the forthcoming campaign. Speaking to the Ants website in his usual man of few words routine Anton said “I am gutted about how last season finished but looking forward to leading the club in my new role”,

Last season’s player of the year Chris “Mooch” McLaughlin has been chosen to be the team captain, and he can’t wait to get started. Mooch told the Ants website “It’s an honour to be given the captaincy this season, it’s a great club and full of great people behind the scenes, this is something I couldn’t pass up on, I have spoken to the gaffer and we have a good relationship and the same goals, now just can’t wait to get started.”

John Kelly added “Anton being promoted from team captain to club captain will give the club a huge boost on and off the park. Anton’s experience in the junior game will help the club go in the right direction for many years to come. I am pleased he accepted my offer. Mooch has great leadership skills and he is a winner and i hope that rubs off on the rest of the squad. He is very much in love with the club and that was a key decision on promoting him to team captain”.

John Kelly takes McKenna Park Reins

The club are delighted to announce that John Kelly has been appointed Manager of the Club. John has a number of years experience in the Amateur game with Glenvale AFC and feels now is the time to make the step up to the Junior grade. He impressed the club executive committee with his passion and drive and we hope to continue progressing under his stewardship. John spoke to the Ants website at last night’s club AGM “I am absolutely delighted to be the new manager of Saint Anthony’s. I would like to thank the committee for giving me this opportunity to come here and I will do everything I possibly can to bring a bit of success to the club”. John has already made his first moves as manager to bring in Alan Turner as assistant manager and has retained the services of Tony Curran as first team coach.

We hope this is the start of a successful partnership and hope John, Alan and Tony can help the club take the next step forward.

McDonald steps down

Ants co-manager Ronnie McDonald last night informed the club of his intention to stand down from his position with immediate effect. Ronnie has been a mainstay of the club, in both a playing and management capacity for the past 14 years and the decision has not been made lightly, however he wants to return to a playing role. “I’m stepping down to hopefully focus on playing regularly again, I’ve always said I wanted to play for a local amateur team before I retire and by stepping down from the management side of things this gives me the opportunity to do that. Who knows though it may not be the last time you’ve seen me as an Ants player”.

The word legend is over-used these days but Ronnie will go down as a true Ants legend for all his hard work and dedication over the past 14 years and knows he is always welcome at McKenna Park.

Thanks for everything Ronnie and all the best for the future from all at the Club.

An announcement on the new management team will be made shortly.
