Saint Anthony's 2 v 5
Pollok
'Lok showed their class with a three goal burst in the opening
15 minutes. Saints to their credit continued to battle away for
most of the game but concerns must be answered at their ability
to concede sloppy goals although they have come against premier
league opposition.
With only five minutes on the clock hesitancy in the Ants
defence allowed Downs time to find the net from 8 yards.
Virtually from the centre spot the home side gave away
possession 3 collected the ball down the right, his superb cross
was headed home by Turnbull who easily outjumped the Ants
defence. Saints did try and hit back but the keeper pulled off
an outstanding save from a Mulheron header. Goal number three
for Pollok came from the penalty spot when the ref spotted an
infringement no one else saw and Downs gave Turner no chance
with a well placed kick. The home side were furious minutes
later when a 'Lok defender used both hands to block however I
can only assume that the sun obscured the ref's view and he
genuinely didn't see it. Goal number four had a touch of luck
when Booth's shot was going just wide of target and was
deflected past the luckless Turner. Minutes before half time the
Ants pulled one back, Mulheron was felled in the box however
Williams produced an excellent finish only to hear that the ref
had blown for a penalty. Mulheron took the kick himself and it
was 1-4 at half time.
Saints then pulled another one back in the 58th minute when an
inch perfect McCuish cross was headed powerfully into the net by
Mulheron. McEwan almost created a scoring opportunity but the
ball fell unkindly and he could only stab at it straight into
the keepers arms from six yards. Turnbull then hit the bar with
a swerving free kick. Late on came goal number five for 'lok and
it had a familiar look when Turner dived to save a low shot, the
ball struck Williams tracking back to defend and shot into the
net.
