St Anthony's 1 v 0 Yoker

A
magnificent individual effort by Mark McCuish gave St Anthony's
a deserved win over a well organised Yoker at McKenna Park.
Mulheron almost gave The Ants a dream start when he headed a
Williams cross that beat 'keeper Meechan but rebounded off the
face of the crossbar. Play was soon bogged down in midfield but
Yoker did come close in 28 minutes but Frew's effort clipped the
top of the bar. Saints then produced some flowing football that
ended with Williams heading just over. Yoker again responded but
10's shot hit the side netting. Both sides created a few half
chances but the half ended goal-less

The Govan side had the visitors on the back foot and a superb
solo run from Williams saw Meechan producing a fine diving save.
McMillan then came close but again the 'keeper saved. Despite
having most of the possession the Ants were finding it
increasingly difficult to break down the well marshalled
defence. That was until the 66th minute when sub McCuish
collected a pass deep in his own half. The midfielder swept past
a couple of players, continued to race up the middle of the park
and as the Yoker defence expected a pass McCuish sent an
unstoppable 20 yarder beyond the helpless Meechan to put the
Ants one up. Saints were in cruise control now however Turner
had to be alert to turn a 14 shot behind for a corner. This
apart the Ants were in control and were well worth their narrow
victory.
