A tremendous opening home league match of the season saw Saints collect all three points against an in form Port Glasgow side .

The Opening ten minutes of the match saw both sides try and break each other down without much success, neither keeper really called into action, however with 23 minutes on the clock Saints were awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal. Mark McCuish sent the ball over the wall and into the top left hand corner of the net to open the scoring. This settled the home side down and 10 minutes later it was 2-0, A McCuish ball into the box saw Callaghan jump up with the Port keeper who could only flap at the ball, which landed to the feet of McMillan who made no mistake from close range. Port then saw a couple of crosses easily held by Turner in the Ants goal, who also did well to get down low and hold a shot from just inside the box. With 5 minutes to go before half time Saints were awarded a corner. McCuish again sent in a lovely cross which Mansare sent a bullet like header into the net to make it 3-0

The Ants got off to the perfect start in the second half when half time substitute Ian McEwan headed home from a Mikey Williams cross, The ball was played down the line for Williams to run on to, he sent over an inch perfect cross and McEwan left the keeper with no chance. Saints were running the Port ragged and chances fell to McEwan, Miller, and Mulheron who failed to convert. With 60 minutes gone it was 5-0 after another cross into the box saw Miller head across goal and into the corner of the net. Saints controlled the rest of the game and James Donnelly wrapped up a superb Ants performance minutes from time when he audaciously chipped the goalkeeper from 20 yards to make it six.
