 Larkhall Thistle 1v 0 St Anthony's

This game had all the hallmarks of who scores first wins and so it proved to be but unfortunately for The Ants it was Thistle who got that all important goal for a precious three points.

Play believe it or not raged from end to end, Ants struck first but Loughlan's shot lacked power and the Keeper held, Turner then was called into action with a fine fingertip save from 11. The Thistle keeper was sharp off his line to dive at the feet of Ford then Watrett fired a low cross across goal but Mulligan cleared. Half time approached with both defences on top

Half time

Larkhall Thistle 0 v 0 St Anthony's

Saints started the second half well but superb crosses from Miller were saved by the keeper, the second saw an Ants Trialist slip at a vital time as he raced to the far post. Watrett then set up 10 but his cutback from the by-line was cleared by McDonald, 11 then produced a shot that swerved wide of the left hand post. Ford broke clear on the left, fired a swerving cross that swept past everyone and missed the far post by inches. The opening goal which also proved to be the winner came in the 71st minute when Watrett shot low, Turner could only palm the ball sideway's and 8 rushed in to score from close range. With time now against them Saints threw players forward but a flurry of chances failed to test the keeper. 6 did have a reply but his header was held by Turner. If there was a footballing god up there Henderson's superb volley from 18 yards would have hit the back of the net but instead cannoned off the post with only minutes left. The home defence stood firm and The Ants suffered their third defeat by a single goal especially when at worst they deserved a share of the spoils
