  Lanark 2 v 1 Saint Anthony's

 

Outfield players make many mistakes that usually go unpunished, Sympathy then to Keeper Davie Turner, who despite having a tremendous game dropped a simple cross that led to the winning goal.

10 produced a great run in the 2nd minute but slid past the post. Miller responded with a shot cum cross that skimmed the top half of the net. United opened the scoring in the 16th minute when a throw in was collected by 11, His cross was directed through Turners legs by 10. The home side kept the pressure up and Turner produced a superb one handed save to deny 6. From the resultant corner Kayes cleared a 7 shot off the line. Saints gradually clawed their way back and Miller's low cross was almost turned into his own net by 5. Kayes took the corner and Saints were level when Mulheron outjumped the home defence to power a header into the top right hand corner of the net. The game now flowed from end to end with the Lanark keeper holding a dangerous Williams cross then Turner held a similar effort from 8

Five minutes after the restart came the winning goal. A cross from 7 looked easy for Turner but the ball squirmed out of his grasp and despite McCuish's attempts to clear the ball it ended up in the net. Another end to end passage ensued with McCuish inches off target with a free kick , Lanark's 8 hit the post, Millers netbound shot deflected, A McMillan free kick turned away by the 'keeper, Turner producing two superb saves to deny 8 and 10 and Henderson then shown a straight red for an off the ball incident. In the 85th minute Saints thought they had an equaliser but McMillan's shot only hit the side net.
