  Ashfield 0 v 0 St Anthony's

A share of the spoils was just about right and Saints managed to keep a clean sheet so there is a lot of positives as well as a precious point.

The first 45 minutes was instantly forgettable as you had the feeling that both teams were out not to lose this opening league fixture and it was fully 28 minutes before a direct shot at goal but Mulheron hit the side netting. Two minutes later Ashfield replied with a long range shot but it was well wide of target. The only shot that landed between the posts came from Miller but the keeper held well.

Half Time Ashfield 0 - 0 Saint Anthony's

Thankfully things began to liven up and in 48 minutes a free kick was pushed away by Turner. Saints had two penalty claims waved away when McMillan's feet were whipped away just as he was about to shoot then a shot seconds later clearly struck a defender's hand but the ref showed no interest. Mulligan then strode forward but shot high over. Ashfield thought they had opened the scoring in the 62nd minute when Garscadden unleashed a powerful free kick from 40 yards straight into the net but the ref clearly indicated an indirect free kick. McMillan almost sneaked a free kick when the keeper dropped it but managed to recover. Turner then produced two decent saves, Then McEwan raced in on goal but shot weakley into the keeper's hands. A couple of long throws near the end of the match were superbly dealt with by the Ants defence of which Mulligan took the Man of the match.
