5 star ‘Lok put Ants to sword

The Ants sectional league cup campaign got off to a bad start with Pollok running out 5-1 winners at McKenna Park. Pollok looked to have taken the lead after only a minute but the Ref had blown for offside. With 5 minutes on the clock the visitors took the lead when Stefan McCluskeys effort skidded off the wet surface and caught Wallace in the Ants goal out, squirming under his grasp and into the net. The Ants keeper had no chance though after 25 minutes when Pollok’s Gary McCann unleashed an unstoppable effort from fully 30 yards that flew into the top corner and the teams went in at the half time whistle with the visitors holding a 2-0 lead.

HALF TIME – ANTS 0 v 2 POLLOK

The second half saw the Ants reduce the deficit in the 54th minute when Jack Heron opened his competitive Ants account with a fine header from an Andy Scanlan cross to give Longmuir no chance and it was game on….for three minutes until Prentice’s smart turn in the Ants box caught out a couple of Ants defenders and he fired past Wallace to regain ‘Loks two goal advantage. A slack pass from defence saw the ball land at the feet of Gary McCann and he took full advantage to run past a couple of Ants defenders and slot home number 4. Lok put the gloss on the scoreline in the 74th minute when Stuart McCann headed home from a corner kick.

A disappointing start for the Ants but still some positives to take out of the match for the new management team and they will be hoping to work on these positives as we travel to New Tinto Park to face our old rivals Benburb.
