Last Gasp Gamba seals 3 points for 10 man Ants.

A Ralph Gamba strike in the 90th minute gave the Ants all three points in the match-up between second and third in the league, an outcome that seemed unlikely when Ashfield equalised with four minutes to go against the 10 men of the Ants who had seen Chris McLaughlin sent off for a second booking.

The Ants made a couple of changes to the side that saw off Annbank with Tony Curran coming in for his second start of the season at the expense of Sean Patrick and Michael Milarvie took the place of Ross McDougall who got injured in the warm up, himself having being brought into the side to replace David Donnelly.

The first half finished goalless with Ashfield having the better of the chances and a strong claim for a penalty waived away but it was the Ants who started the second period the brighter and they took the lead in the 66th minute. CHRIS MCLAUGHLIN beat Moulangou to the ball in a 50-50 and then ran towards the Ashfield goal before unleashing a dipping shot which flew past Catterson from fully 30 yards and nestled into the right hand corner of the net.

Ashfield took advantage of McLaughlin’s red card in the 86th minute when a throw in eventually found it’s way to JOSH BOYD at the end of the Ants box and his deflected shot found the back of the net. Earlier in the season the Ants had beaten Ashfield with a winner in the 5th minute of injury time when Anton Conway fired in from a throw in and lightening was to strike again however this time it was RALPH GAMBA who was the hero for the Ants. Andy Scanlan found Brian Henderson from a quick throw in and he put in a cross from the byline which found Gamba a yard out and he fired the ball into the net to send the Ants fans wild.

A fine win which showed the fighting spirit of the team and they will hopefully extend their winning streak to three in a row when Carluke come to town next week.

Girvan awaits as McLaughlin double seals Ants win

A Chris McLaughlin double along with a James Ross strike gave the Ants a fine 3-1 win in the first round of the New Coin Holdings West of Scotland cup. A big thank you to all at M & T Pipeline for sponsoring today’s match. Your support is greatly appreciated.

The Ants took the lead in the 26th minute with a fine move, Dempsey intercepted a pass and found McLaughlin, he passed to Gordon who flicked it back in a one-two with McLaughlin sending the return ball out wide to Kelly, with the outside of the boot he weighted a perfect pass through to CHRIS MCLAUGHLIN who had continued his run and gave Fisher in the Annbank goal no chance with a shot across the keeper and into the corner.

The Ants doubled their lead in the 48th minute. Crawford’s pass found Henderson who had came on at half time to replace the injured Gordon, he passed back to CHRIS MCLAUGHLIN who advanced forward a couple of yards before unleashing a powerful drive from 20 yards which flew past Fisher and into the net. Annbank reduced the deficit in the 73rd minute when Patrick was adjudged to have impeded DILLAN DUNN after the striker had headed wide, Annbank’s top scorer dusted himself down to send Patrick the wrong way and give his team a lifeline.

The joy was short lived though as the Ants regained their two goal advantage when Annbank could only partially clear a corner, the ball dropped to Grant Kelly who tried a volley but didn’t connect right with the ball, he did however manage to find JAMES ROSS with the scuff and the big centre half lashed the ball into the net.

A fine 3-1 victory for the Ants against an impressive Annbank side who played some lovely football of their own at times and a trip to Girvan in the second round, the date of which is yet to be confirmed.

Ants Website Man of the Match – A lot of good performances but CHRIS MCLAUGHLIN shades it with his double.
